Funny how everything changes so fast. It has come to a point where it is already a MUST to have to succumb to the temptation of signing in with all social networking sites (ehem) and just try to be as public as possible, sharing every detail of their life via facebook and twitter. Now, some are already rallying against the whole idea, even making it a protocol for some events to refrain from blogging or tweeting about it.

Life as an Intern

It's nice doing the whole internship thing all over again, best doing it the way I wanted it to be. Years ago it was dealing with NGO's and their advocacies (yes I majored in Polsci), and getting into fashion was completely out of the picture. It must've been three years since I finished my fashion design studies, and it's just now that im really delving into this industry, slowly learning and grasping everything.

Yesterday, I was lucky enought to be part of Dean & Trent's video shoot, to showcase collections, touching base a new format for promoting the brand.

Doing intern work is real work. Hours and hours of research, running errands and just literally play the "alalay" part. But more than anything else, I'v never felt so excited and happy playing this part. I like the hard work, momentum and just the vibe that you get from working with such amazing talent.

Most importantly, what makes the whole experience perfect, is working for such a dynamic brand, good quality stuff and the flexibility and willingness to think and work outside the box. I feel so lucky being part of this team at this stage, when everything is yet to catapult to great heights (yeah think postal service).

On top of everything, I just feel so honored working for the man behind this label. I feel so inspired with his creativity and passion for what he's doing.

What I'm Reading

Im currently reading Barbara Walters' memoir. More than her accomplishments (first woman to do news reporting in TV) I am fascinated with the list of people she got to interview over the years. Name any significant figure in history, be in politics, showbiz, etc. she has all agained access to them. Her book is like a digested history book, with juicy gossip on the side. I never expected to like this book, moreso find her interesting. But reading her life and her experiences, Ms. Walters has definitely gained my respect.

I've always been crazy about Fifi Lapin. So imagine how happy I was when P discovered that they have it in Rustan's. I was already determined to get one, but was disappointed after seeing only two styles from Fifi Lapin for Le Sport Sac Collection, a gigantic backpack and a lunchbag, which to me is completely not something I can carry around, most especially at work. Funny how I completely forgot about this obsession and moving on with other things

I like that he's atypical, but his peculiar ways bother me. His evasiveness distracts me, but I am drawn by his charm and mystery. I do not recall how and where it happened, but I'm sure as hell thrilled that we took the same ride. It's been 8 years, and I'm still in awe and taken. So much has been going on with me this past few days. I never expected my July to be very exciting (except P's birthday), since at work these are what we call our "lean months". I've always wanted to do other things apart from what I do at my day job, so as to divert my artistic energies and continously venture into other things that I am passionate about. Im so thrilled to be part of this program for this promising menswear brand. Tasks assigned to me are really very exciting, and I get to be surrounded with my first love which is fashion. I am still "on trial" so there are still alot of things to do before I can really say I'm part of the team. Hopefully they'll like me and my work =). I'm doing this all for the love of fashion and my eagerness to learn and just live life and maximize my potential. I know it's going to be tough, but sure as hell this is one exciting and fun ride for me.

My reliable Technomarine is already dying on me. Literally! The hands are still moving (which tells me the battery is still ok), but whenever I leave for work, I noticed how I have to synchronize it, almost every f-ing day! Im no watch connoisseur, aside from the fact that I cannot afford to be one, but this only means something. I need to get a new one! I've been checking the Toy Watch with all the colors and spunky designs (actually dreaming). But realized, I have always preferred my watch in black for a more classic, sophisticated, and masculine look. Lo and behold, I stumbled upon this gorgeous timepieces, now available in the Philippines, and the prices very reasonable.

Chotovelli Pilot Watches are from Torino Italy. According to their website, these watches are powered by an Alfa Romeo Twin Spark Engine (wow, sounds luxurious to me! haha!).

These are my top picks, but the last is my favorite, since it's the only one I can afford, haha! Oh well time to work for this.

I've already seen this little corner before, but was not very impressed with their selection. It was like a PX store but with very limited items and un-updated products.

Just to kill time, we visited again the place, and wow, the place is re-stocked with interesting items. Here are few items that caught my eye:

I was surpised to see this Thakoon for Target skirt! Love it!

If you enjoy thrift shopping, this place is worth a visit. They have clothes, houseware, decor, etc. As for the prices, most items do not come very cheap. i think its the hunt and the unexpected find which makes it more interesting.

Just a quick update, Mango is already on sale! And that's part of their annual all-out sale which happens around June and January. My sisters and I visited the Powerplant branch, and wow, stocks are still great (though while we were there, people are literally hoarding)! Love love the linen shorts, trousers and jackets (perfect for the rainy days).

Tip: Mango goes on sale first, give it a week or two, expect Zara with their grand sale (which I looove!).

Vaccination

YES. I found myself a bit scared when I got the flu last week. I had to stay home for 3 days, and the heavy rains even made it worse whenever I had to leave the house, always drenched in rain. Though I am pretty confident that I don't have "the flu", my mom, being the doctor that she is suggested that it is better to just get a vaccine, most especially since I take the train everyday when im off to work.

My sister injected this to me this morning. Funny, I was scared that it might be painful, haha! I can't remember the last time I had another vaccination!

I was surprised to see this! I though this strain was just a new discovery. Does this mean i'm H1N1 protected?

Growing up as an asthmatic, I knew it was not a good idea to go near pets, much more keep one at home. It all started with you Mustard, when mom's patient, asked her to adopt you since she was having difficulty keeping you and your siblings at home. I remember mom telling me how you were brought to her clinic inside an SM blue shopping bag and that I hurriedly picked you up at her clinic. I can vividly remember seeing you under mom's examining table, with biscuit crumbs all over. You were so tiny, and very delicate. I brought you home inside a shoebox, for fear of crushing you with your tiny limbs. Excited, I dropped by the community petshop, and got you a floral collar (with bell) and a plastic bowl. I know how scared you were the first time I held you and how you missed your mom back home. It took about a week before you got used to our house, you taking refuge under my bed. I was scared having you and all the responsibilities, feeding, cleaning and just taking the blame when you did something wrong.

When people get mad at you for peeing everywhere and just munching on anything within your reach, I get hurt. Remember how we even ran away from home after fighting with ate because you did something and we took refuge at a friend's house for 3 days? I can never forget the time when I was crying and you just stood beside me and you made a sound and you licked my tears away. I knew I had a friend in you.

I was very happy when mom allowed me to bring you out of town with us.I happily packed your things, and even bought you a shirt at Shopwise for that trip. I almost had a heart attack when after stopping at a gas station at the expressway, you escaped while I was walking you and saw you coming down the highway! I got frantic and kept shouting at you and begging you to come back, which you did. I was so scared that as soon as I got you, I kissed you nonstop and made you swear not to do that again. The whole trip I had to eat my meals in the car while the whole family dine inside restaurants so as to accompany you. Things I would do for you.

Going out of the country was the hardest. Even with people to look after you, we know it's not going to be the same. The whole time we were out, we always think about you and would call a friend just to check on you at home. My luggage going back always include treats and eating bowls which I painstakingly handcarry in the plane. Oh how good it felt whenever we would go home and see how you missed us, your mouth shaking and profuse tail wagging.

After some time, there came Denise and the rest. I had to take responsibility for the others while Ate Lei and Chris took care of you. They too was charmed by you. I think the hardest thing for Chris when she left for the States was leaving you behind. Now, it's Lei who's taking care of you and for one thing she adores you. I cannot forget that time when you got confined to the hospital, and I saw how ate cried whenever we came to visit you, and how she got mad at the maids for leaving things within your reach.

You were our first baby and everyone learned to love you, more than a pet, but as part of the family. You are now the tita of the smaller ones and unfortunately the enemy of Denise (haha!). I want to thank you for showing me how great it is to have known this kind of friendship and love. If not for you, I wouldn't know how much the family is missing for not having you guys as part of the family. Be well and live long, because I cannot imagine not having you around. I Love you Mita!

K: Oh,ok great! Can't wait!

I do love watching bands with P, but not until 4am! I have a crazy sleeping habit, unlike most people. Sure, I can stay late, but expect not to hear a thing from me, like a drugged kid, about to pass out. So last weekend, I braced myself for a gig marathon. Of course I want to see my favorite band Taken by Cars, but at the back of my mind, I was praying so hard for it not to be an all-nighter.

Prior to the event, P and I made the most of our trip down to highstreet. While I busily perused through the shelves of Fullybooked, P battled with his shopping instinct over the CD section. We then hit off Hobbes and Landes and had the best yogurt!

Yummy! Among all the frozen yogurt stations, It's Yohgurt-Froz that I really like. Topped with my favorite strawberries!

As they say dessert comes first, we then had dinner at Friday's. I noticed how this branch showcases 70's, 80's and 90's wall decor, unlike the other Friday's with vintage memorabilia. I even spotted a Ninja Turtle bus, that my brother once had!

Of course, my favorite!

We then head off to Mag:net, which is by the way known for their ground zero beer!

And then off to the best part, cam-whoring to the max! There were about 8 or 9 bands, performing at least 3 songs each.

My favorite! I don't dance at all! But when P asked me, hell I don't care! I'll dance!

It was 2:30 am when we left. I know I wished for it to end early, but I was having so much fun I didn't even noticed the time!

I am personally not a fan of the ballet jelly-shoe craze! Manila has been literally jelly shoe-hounded with that ballerina jelly shoe that everyone seems to own, from the sidewalk version to the the Gucci, Melissa's & Marc's. I admit I find it cute, but adding myself to the jelly population is already too much. But with the Jelly Gladiator, I cringe and prayed very hard to resist this temptation. I had this in my mind for over a week.

I know the the gladiator sandals has been around for god knows how long. Im sure fashion gurus are already vomiting, but surprisingly, this is continously being revolutionized, from the sky high, to the ankle-high, 1,2,3... straps, studded, and now the Jelly gladiators!

I'm sure the whole fashion scene is already evading this overkill. But just like everyone else, I find it insanely ridiculous how the gladiators look good in almost everything! I like it's tough exterior with all the straps and studs and how it cages one's foot no matter how ugly it is. I had to subscribe to this most especially, since summer is almost over and the heavy rains are about to come. This is the perfect "rainy-day shoes" without having my shoes soaked in water (which happened to my poor Zara flats, now quietly buried in my closet).

711 Find of the Day: Tee Up

I always associate cream puffs with Dulcinea's, that's why seeing a box of cream puffs in a convenience store is very intriguing. The size of the "cream puffs" is way too small for the regular ones that we're used to. The biscuit is crunchy and has the same texture as that of the regular ones, but lacks a little salt which usually goes against the sweetness of the filling. The custard filling is nothing close to the real cream puff since it tastes more of a melted sandwich filling and the experience of biting it and the cream oozing out of the biscuit is missing.

The idea is actually genius, bringing such a pastry favorite to the local store. But for Php 13, do not expect anything close.

Wouldn't be called a convenience store for nothing! It's like my SM for all things fun and cheap (boohoo, ya cheapskate am I)! I remember as a kid, my dad would bring us cookies, gum, candies & chocolates every night from 711 since this is the only store open by the time he comes home from work. Imagine I would chew on my favorite Bubbly Yum, (watermelon flavor, hehe) in the middle of the night and end up with gum all over my hair when I wake up!

This store is also our refuge whenever we travel abroad. I remember spending New Year's somewhere and guess what's for New Year's Eve dinner, 711 microwavables (ooh the yang chow rice is tdf) since we didn't want to go out, scared that we might be caught up dead in fireworks. And recently, P and I hoarded their bottled drinks (cute small Pepsi and Mirinda bottles) and the free mineral water that goes with every boxed meal!

Everyday at work as soon as I've settled in, right after checking my email, I instantly hit the store for my breakfast (yes i know not a healthy choice) and of course for my daily dose of treasure hunting. Going to 711 is like going over a store full of discoveries. Supermarkets are nothing, compared to this! Some items that I recently got are not even carried by big supermarkets!

That's why I decided to come up with a post on my "discoveries" in this treasure trove called 711!

Last Sunday I attended an officemate's wedding. Since we were already coming in late from my mom's lunch, (and it was raining!) we just headed to the reception. Since this coincided with Mother's Day (and P's family already had plans), the first person that came into my mind was to ask my sister to go with me! Aside from the fact that we haven't been out (just the two of us) for quite sometime already. I thought this was the perfect time to dress up and just play around with our clothes (which we so love doing!).

We kid about how we always tend to argue whenever we decide to go to Greenbelt for shopping.That's why this weekend we hit off Shangri-La and just have fun, goof around.

We missed Wendy's so much that even if we plan to dine at some place with Wifi, we decided to give this old tradition a try.

P as always looking hungry...haha! You don't even wanna know what he ordered!

After a few shops, we headed off to Edsa Shangri-La (for chocolates) and Fullybooked. As we were paying for a book we got for mom, the girl asked for my card and replaced it with a new one. Best thing about that is she gave me a 20% discount coupon which I can use on my next purchase. This is in part of the card replacement thing they were doing. Love it!

Of course, I had to get my yocard stash of the day!

Shangri-la it is! We had a great time! Doing all the cheapy-doo things and just doing things that we so love (music store + bookstore + clothes). Cant wait for our next trip to the mall.

P.S Fifi is no longer available in Shangri-La (aside from the humongous backpack). I guess it's really just the lunchbox at Rustan's Makati, huhu.

Show & Tell: Workspace

I remember being assigned a cube of my own with my own PC, phone, etc. and having a considerable amount of space all for myself. Being a newbie in the company, I didn't want to change a thing since I was too shy to move anything. But as I go to work everyday, I felt uncomfortable and uneasy, not having my "basics" at my disposal. Being the OC that I am, I know I had to home-ify my workstation to make myself more comfortable, most especially since I will be devoting most of my time in the office. Aside from the usual reminders and notes, my memory board has pictures of me, my dog, and P. Don't even get me started on my Post-It's and colored notepads that I have in every shape, size and color. Of course there's my trusty Moleskine, Pilot Gtec pens (I cannot write a thing without this!), newly sharpened pencils, my pink staple wires (haha!) magazines (for work), highlighters and of course a good cup of coffee.

Funny how the airport carousels are filled with luggages in plain black (guilty!), that I always see people tying a ribbon or something colorful just to be able to distinguish which among the pool is their bag. If money is not an option, I'd definitely travel in Globetrotter suitcases because of their classic designs, reminiscent of the glamorous days of air travelling, and of course way different that you can easily tell. But this? Oh! My favorite feline, Hello Kitty with gorgeous floral details inside!

Nursing my fever, my sister and I had the whole day to bum around and go on a movie-marathon. Checking the movie list, my sister and I ran through the choices.

Me: Who's in here? (Pointing to the DVD)
Sister: Oh, that's Scarlett Johansson and Penelope Cruz' film and that guy from Grey's Anatomy.
Me: Huh?
Sister: Danny Duquette (laughs)
Me: Oh...
Sister: Ano ka ba, you don't know that? They won awards kaya for this.
Me: Ah ok, sige go!

Traveling through the streets of Barcelona, experiencing Catalan culture and the art scene is really the first thing that interest me in this film. The story revolves around friends Vicky and Christina in Barcelona, V for an in-depth study of Catalan culture for her postgrad studies, and C to get over her ex. Both characters exhibit contrasting personalities with straight and stiff V and free-spirited C crossing paths with artist J who both got girls smitten over him (J previously married to unstable Penelope).

What I like about the film is how they tackled human nature's precedence over monogamy (sexual orientation is not the issue here) despite the orientation and nature of C's character. Being an artist, C's character was expected to go outside what is expected of human relationships, yet in the end the yearning and feeling of having a "normal" relationship, prevailed. Whereas, refined V who is the epitome of perfection (fiancee, marriage, career), finds herself torn between an affair with J or staying with her fiancee Mr. Stepford (hehe).

And so was the infamous never-happened threesome...

First Day

And so the trip finally came!Flying TG has been our number one choice as I've had numerous bad experience from other carriers. I wanted P to experience Thailand in all its sense and flying with their flag carrier is the perfect way to start our holiday. Everything went fairly well, except the fact that P slept and felt nauseous all the way. Plane food again with TG was perfect! I enjoyed every bit of it (except my dessert), but P's remained untouched, with a barf bag already prepared on his side.

We landed at BKK's Suvarnabhumi Airport past 10, and boy the new airport (before it was Don Muang Airport)was huge and beautiful. Tired and sleepy, I didn't get to really look around as we hurried to the door to meet our guide. At first, we had a had a hard time looking for our names, amidst the pool of bond papers and placards posted along the gates. But as we were about to exit Gate 6, I noticed P's name taped on the other side (no wonder we weren't able to see it!), and alas the guide(which I honestly cannot tell up to now if the guide is a he/she) who ushered us to the side to wait.

The trip from the airport to our hotel was endless. Although I wanted to see and feel the city and recognize the few things that still remind me of my trips there years before, I was too sleepy and tired. Me and P holed in one side of the van and took a nap.

I cannot tell how long the trip was, maybe an hour and a half or two, as traffic was really really bad in BKK (worse the Manila). Days after we learned, that Friday (our first day), was the worse traffic BKK experienced.

As soon as we got to the hotel, it was already past 1, and happily, we were able to check in in less than 10 minutes. Whew, I hurriedly took a quick shower, my pj's on and off to dream land, looking forward to the next day's itinerary.

I opted to stay home today to attend to some documents which is only available on weekdays. I intended to do any of the following:

1) Renew my NBI Clearance
2) Get Voter's ID
3) Laminate company ID
4) Get transcript (I know it's been 4 yrs already)
5) Get alumni ID
6) Resize my diploma (guess you hae an idea where I took college)

I woke up very early, chose task #1. Since I only have an expired NBI clearance, I decided to go to Megamall for NBI's renewal kiosk. I was there at exactly 10am when employees were still coming in. It only took us 5 minutes to reach the area (ground floor), and boy i was not only surprised, I was shocked! Following the line, we went up to the ground floor, god, it was jammed, next, 2nd, 3rd, 4th, 5th? Can you imagine, the line was from the ground floor to the 5th level (as the NBI kiosk was right beside the stairs) and already filling to 6th! I thought we were the only ones who had the "plan"! Tsk, tsk, gone was my master plan. Just looking at the lines, I don't think we'll be over by 4pm. I was just wondering, what's the difference now of going to the main office vs. kiosk when the lines can be as heavy as this? I thought kiosks were suppose to be more convenient and faster, whew. Incredible!I thought of options 2-6, but with the traffic and heat, yay I can just imagine more horror stories to come.

Hay, and that's how I spent my day, misssing work for nothing.

Flowers at the Market

This morning we shopped for flowers and plants at the weekend market. My sister and I suddenly thought of sprucing up our home, by adding plants both inside and outside to add life and color. The weekend market is the perfect place to visit on weekends, not only because of the food, but the wide array of plants available from fruit bearing trees, orchids to ferns.

Orchids range from 150 to as high as 600+, depending on its' variety, while other decorative plants for as low as 20. Because of the perfect weather (sunny yet windy), we didn't actually notice the time going through stall by stall, haggling and taking photos.

Planning

I've been really busy lately, juggling work and planning our first trip together. We originally planned to go to Thailand, but because of the political situation there, we were a bit scared. Then we considered Shanghai, but realized we still have to get visas for it. So we then settled for Malaysia, but... My heart still goes to the City of Angels.

Bangkok is really one of my favorite places to visit. Aside from the shopping, I've always been interested in their culture. At some point I got engrossed with Buddhist teachings that I even considered converting (haha). I even applied for a post graduate studies there at Chulalongkorn University ( but my dad opted me to go to law school, heeh)! My family used to spent New Year's there and everytime we go there, everything feels new to me. Like there's so much more to discover.

Now I can't wait for P to exeprience Bangkok. I'm actually fussing over our itinerary, checking out the internet for more places to go (aside from the usual). This trip is very special to me, with P in my favorite city, discovering the place again for the nth time. One thing in my mind right now, make this P's perfect holiday.

With BKK's crisis and political situation ... STILL we're going! haha!

My 2009 and Beyond

My New Year became very very interesting after a Tarot Card reading made by my sister's friend. At first I was a bit nervous and queasy, not only because the cards look gory and scary, but the fact that everything will unfold right before my eyes, my thoughts, future, & my issues.

The thing about tarot card reading is that it not only gives you a glimpse of your future, but more importantly (and im speaking for myself), it makes you understand yourself better. It's not always that you have someone who verbalizes your weaknesses and anything that goes through your mind. Though we have our family and friends who can pointblankly say what's wrong with us, still there will always be things that we want to keep to ourselves, things that we are unsure of and afraid to admit. Giving that person the power to "read" you and point out your issues is a very humbling experience. This made me realize more about who I am and who I want to be.

I've always been a very quiet person, with only my trusted friends who I confide to. But since it was once my resolution to be more "welcoming" to other after some of my colleaugues told me I'm intimidating, I thought this was the way to go, be more trusting and friendly. Hearing people that I already learned to trust and respect and their cunning tendencies really got me upset. Sometimes we do notice these, yet we choose to disregard or even consider it,because of the faith we have in the person and the friendship. We even torture ourselves for even thinking about it and feel guilty all along. But hey life is really unfair, who even made you think that everyone will embrace you?

Sometimes we have these thoughts that we already know the answers yet we still need to hear from other people before we do it. It's that little "push" that we're waiting for which gives us that encouragement to go for it. It's not only because of the assurance of success or failure of one thing that we're asking, but the courage it gives us to accept our defeat and the courage to claim our victory.

Despite this experience there are still millions of things on top of my mind. Just the assurance of my loved one's company and love, I brace myself for a 2009 that's more exciting, full of challenges ahd opportunities yet full of hope and faith.

I never understood why people say "once you get a tattoo, it won't be your last", not until Paulo and I had our first tattoo. I remember I was first adamant to get one because a) my mom will kill me; b) i knew it hurts like crazy; & c) i might not like it and end up living with tattoo stains on my foot.

Fast forward, 1 year after im happy i took the plunge in getting one. My mom for one just stared at it and just acted as if it didn't exist. I have the lowest pain threshold, but surprisingly I was able to endure it.

After that one tattoo session we had (i got myself a butterfly, ya i know its common; P had my name, weeeh), Paulo got another one in about a couple of months after (latin phrase), and yesterday, he got one again...

He got a Koi fish for his arm... The design was actually researched through the internet, and executed by tattoo artist Ronald Buenaventura.

The actual process took about an hour and a half.

I didn't get a picture after, i thought it wasn't picture-worthy, with all the bloodstains, and swelling around.

Now, im actually researching what design should I get the next time...
